Tech Launch Arizona to join AZ Furnace

More things are cooking at the fast-expanding Arizona Furnace Accelerator. The University of Arizona has announced that Tech Launch Arizona will join AZ Furnace as a university research partner (Tech Launch is the university’s tech transfer arm). This means selected technologies and IP will become available for licensing to entrepreneurs to form the basis for new startups. Because of this new partnership, AZ Furnace has extended the application deadline for its next cohort by two weeks so interested parties can evaluate the technologies.

We’ve written lots about the AZ Furnace accelerator before (see the links at the bottom of this post). The package for companies they bring on board includes $50k cash and services, $25k of that in grant seed funding. They also get incubation space at one of the AZ Furnace partner sites as part of the 6 month program.

The new deadline for applying to AZ Furnace is October 15. Applicants will participate in a nationwide competition to select startups based on one or more patents or technologies developed at Arizona research institutions. Companies that make the cut must be based in the state. AZ Furnace now has nearly 225 technologies available for license.

Interested companies can attend the next Furnace information session at ASU SkySong on Wednesday, September 19 from 6-8:30 pm. Topics covered will include how to apply to Furnace, the licensing process for technologies from research partners and advice and networking opportunities to form founding teams.
