Live from Techtoberfest

In Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada, they take Oktoberfest very seriously -- just as seriously as they take high tech, and that's pretty seriously. So, the logical thing to do was to combine high tech and Oktoberfest which resulted in the idea for Techtoberfest. One of our reporters wrote about plans for Techtoberfest a couple of weeks ago. Today is day 1 of Techtoberfest, so as a dedicated reporter I felt it was my journalistic duty to see that things got off to a good start. Plus, there was the promise of plenty of food (and rumors of beer) involved. Also it didn't hurt that The Accelerator Gazette is based at the Communitech Hub, home of the Hyperdrive seed accelerator, and ground zero for Techtoberfest.

I can confirm the event is a big success -- in fact it's a sellout. You can get a sense of the crowd from the pictures. There is plenty of business networking going on right now--startups, angels, mentors, bankers, lawyers, you name it. In true Oktoberfest tradition, at lunch there was a large amount of sauerkraut, pretzels and strudel (I swear I even saw one person in a dirndl). In true entrepreneurship tradition, right now there is heavy duty selling underway too, with lots (I mean lots) of startups showing off their latest.
