Hon Hai invests big in Taiwan incubator and cloud computing center
Hon Hai Group today announced that it's investing NT$ 1.9 billion (US$ 63.3 million) in the new incubator and cloud computing center in the Kaohsiung Software Technology Park (KSTP) in southern Taiwan. KTSP is currently under construction and will be open for business mid next year. Hon Hai is a huge contract manufacturer ...most people know of it through its Foxconn subsidiary. Foxconn manufactures a lot of Apple products and from time to time is in the news about controversy over its labor practices.
An official indicated that Hon Hai’s project there will include an international convention center,a display center, and a café. Part of Hon Hai's site is going to be multifunctional for flexibility of future use.
According to C.C Lan, a senior official of Kaohsiung city , about a third of space for the incubation center will exclusively for Hon Hai.
There's not a lot of information about this incubator. A Taiwan government website says this: "The incubation domain of Kaohsiung Software Park includes Digital Content, IT Software, Science and Technology embedded Service, and Mobile Service related industry, and forms a strong dual-core incubation of software industries with the Nankang Software Park of Taipei.....Kaohsiung Software Incubation Center will actively assist southern industries with the transition or entering the domain of Cloud Computing and Digital Content, and further form a new cluster in southern Taiwan. At present, 14 companies have participated in the Cloud Computing R&D Project to expand the clustering effect. "
The cloud computing center is expected to be finished and inaugurated by the end of August 2013, with the incubation center projected to open after three years.
