Australia’s Gold Coast gets a new incubator

A new startup incubator will soon launch on Australia’s Gold Coast.

Silicon Lakes, based out of the Varsity Lakes suburb, is backed by six local businesses.

The incubator will pick its first ten startups at Apps Expo 2012, a pitch competition for app developers taking place at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on November 3rd. The winning entrepreneur(s) will get $5,000 and an opportunity to work with Silicon Lakes in the development of their app.

Greg Burnett, founder of Internet Only, one of the partnering businesses in Silicon Lakes, told StartupSmart that he’s hoping to eventually expand the Silicon Lakes concept to Sydney and Melbourne.
